The Mudeford Lifeboat Funday is only a couple of weeks away! SUNDAY 27TH JULY
On Sunday 27th July thousands of people will gather on Mudeford Quay come rain or shine for this years grand summer event. The 2007 event was a great success with the final amount raised well in excess of £20,000. As always the event is planned to be even better. The group of organisers led by Sally Deham Wilkes are all keen supporters of the local RNLI and all the money raised goes directly to helping with the running of the station at Mudeford. This station serves all the waters surrounding Christchurch. The money raised by all those who attend goes a very long way to helping with the stations annual costs, thus enabling their crew to get out to sea and keep people safe. There is no doubt that their service is of huge value to the local community!
With a huge emphasis on a family day out the line up for the day includes the ever popular and entertaining raft race. This year there are more entries than ever before and most are by local businesses and organisations, so it promises to be a very competitive race! It’s not too late to enter a raft, if you have a crew who are keen to enter a challenge you can download an entry form from http://www.mudefordlifeboatfunday.org
or pick one up at H2O LIFESTYLE in Wick Lane. As well as the raft race there will be all the usual fun and games with classic funfair rides, lots to eat and drink and many individual stalls to keep everyone entertained. As usual we will be joined by the FIRE FM and the 2CR Black Thunder Crews who will be broadcasting live from the quay and joining in with the fun of the raft race. This year the bumper BBQ sponsored by Cookes Furniture will be manned by members of the lifeboat crew, who between flippin’ burgers will also be on the water performing exciting demonstrations alongside HM Coastguards in their new AW139 rescue helicopter. The air display will be put on by Steven Bath of Bath Travel and as usual he is planning something very loud, very fast and extremely impressive!
The Taverners Big band will be on at 8pm, celebrating their 25th anniversary. Their first ever gig was played in the station on the Quay in aid of the Mudeford lifeboat. The live music will start at 6pm followed by a huge firework finale put on by Peeks Partystore and The Avonmouth Hotel. Get the whole family together, bring your deck chairs and picnic benches and settle in for a wonderful evening!
The day starts at 10am, with the raft race starting at 1pm. For more info and loads of great pictures from last year we now have a new website at http://www.mudefordlifeboatfunday.org
, check it out, you can download a copy of the programme. As usual with the help of the local Air Cadets we will be running a Park and Ride service between Mudeford Quay and Stanpit Recreation Ground.
